The gastrocnemius muscle is one of the two muscles that form the calf muscle. The other one is the soleus muscle.

The gastrocnemius muscle has two heads, one on the inside and one on the outside of your lower leg. They both attach to your heel bone through the Achilles tendon, which is the largest and strongest tendon in your body.
